The canyon of the
river Pavone few minutes from the house
|Legend dates the
origin of a small fortress on the site of Rocca
Sillana to Roman times, named after the dictator Sulla (Silla>Sillana).
The present tower can be dated back to 1067, the buildings of the
enclosure to about 1200, while the external walls are from the 15th
century. Entrance is free and the site is open each Saturday and
Sunday from 15.30 to 18.30 (2 km). La
Pieve, church ruin from 800 (3 km). The best local swim is at
delle Fanciulle a 500 long pool in the Pavone river that comes
with a small waterfall (4 km).
